Not to long ago I posted a blog on risk taking. I quoted a poem from someone who I thought was an unknown author. Well was I ever wrong. I recently received a phone call from the author letting me know that he wrote the poem. Not only did he take the risk to reach out to talk to me, he was very genuine, funny and a compassionate human being.  I felt very honored, privileged and blessed to have been touched by his contact.  So I will again post his poem author known.

By Joseph P Lawler – 1985

To laugh is to risk appearing the fool

To weep is to risk appearing sentimental

To reach out for another is to risk involvement

To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self

To place your ideas, your dreams before a crowd

Is to risk not being loved

To live is to risk dying

To hope is to Risk despair

To try is to risk failure

But risks must be taken

Because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing

People, who risk nothing, have nothing

Do nothing and are nothing

They may avoid suffering and sorrow

But they cannot learn, feel, change, love or live

Chained by their certitudes they are slaves

They forfeited their freedom

Only a person who risks is free!
