What’s on Your Mind?
How does your brain or mind work? Actually your brain and your mind are not the same. Your brain is the portion of the central nervous system. It is responsible for the interpretation of sensory impulses, the coordination and control of bodily activities, and the exercise of emotion, memory, and thought. Your mind is consciousness. In very simplistic terms, it’s like your brain is the hard drive, and your mind holds the programs. We have a conscious and subconscious mind. We also have a right and left brain. The left hemisphere of your brain is dominant in language: processing what you hear and handling most of the duties of speaking. It is logical, and mathematical.
The right hemisphere is mainly in charge of spatial abilities, face recognition and processing music. Intuition and visual imagery are processed here. It is considered the creative side. Most people use their left brains more than their right. However it would serve us well if we were able to utilize both sides efficiently. There is so much we still don’t know about our minds and brains. We have come to learn that our brains are plastic. This means that it has the capacity to be flexible and change. It is able to relearn, reprogram, rewire and reconnect. So, if our brains get damaged some how, we can reboot the hard drive and if we don’t like the programs that have been down loaded we can delete them and add new programs. It is quite fascinating and amazing! Never under estimate the power of your mind and brain. After all we are pure consciousness, expressing ourselves in physical form.
